Rating Scale

We strive to provide an honest and objective perspective on the books that we read, personally revealing its strengths and weaknesses,  with the hope to help you find your next marvellous read. Rating each book out of five stars,we take the following into consideration.

Creativity Of Content:

How original and/or reinvented is the concept?

Is the story expressed in a unique and thoughtful way?

Does the story reveal unexpected and engaging elements?

Storyline Development :

How effectively key characters are introduced?

Is the content richly developed and intriguing ?

Does the story have a good tone and pace? 

Is there a smooth connection of ideas ?

Does the novel have a compelling build up to the climax and resolution? 

Is the story emotionally connecting?

Character Development:

Does the characters have depth and personality? 

Are the relationships between characters dynamic and impactful?

Did the characters evolve throughout the story?

Are characters personality and history gradually revealed?

Is there a good physical description of characters?

Are stereotypes and cliches avoided?

Quality Of Writing:

Are concepts organized and logical?

Is the language clear and expressive?

Is there a smooth transition between ideas?

5 stars = Absolutely Marvellous (the book went beyond our expectations in all four areas);

4.0 - 4.9 stars= Engaging & Entertaining (an engaging and entertaining read, but did not meet one of the criteria);

3.5 - 3.9 stars= Enjoyable (overall a good read, but fell short in one or more criteria);

below 3.5 stars= Not Recommended  (the book fell short in almost all the areas)
